Deputy President William Ruto has assembled a powerful machinery to beat competition from the likes of Raila Odinga and the sacred alliance bringing together Gideon Moi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi.
Aware of the dilemma facing governors serving their second terms, the secopnd in command is reported to be copurting them promising goodies in exchange for their support.
The messaging has been that those serving their final term have nothing to lose and should not shy away from severing political ties with their parties by supporting the second in command.
To this effect, 14 governors have confirmed or are considering publicly endorsing the DP.
The county bosses have been promised plum government jobs ranging from Cabinet secretaries to ambassadorial jobs should Ruto win the race.
Reports further indicate that the second in command is banking on the BBI report sailing through to create more positions to reward his cronies for their political support.
In particular, the DP is keen on a governor from Coast serving his final term and who has not been sitting easy in his party.
The popular county boss who enjoys support across the nation is reported to have been promised the slot of a Prime Minister or one of the two deputies should he switch sides and join the DP Ruto bandwagon.
Ruto was initially opposed to the BBI report but softened his stand in what many believe is a sign that he is keen on cashing in on the report to reward his cronies while at the same time putting a brave face to oppose the creation of more positions to win public support.
