Former State House Comptroller Abraham Kiptanui is dead.
His demise was confirmed by his family in a statement released today.
“We sadly announce the passing of Kiptanui during the wee hours of Easter Sunday morning, April 4. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his family at the Nairobi hospital following a long illness.
“Funeral arrangements shall be announced at a later date, the family requests time to grief during this challenging time.” Read the statement in part.
Kiptanui was a powerful figure in former President Daniel Arap Moi’s regime where he served as a long-standing Comptroller of State House.
He served in the powerful position at State House until his retirement in 1996.
The deceased made headlines on 26 March 2021 when Uhuru Kenyatta’s social media handlers sent out a condolence message to his family at a time when he was still alive but admitted in hospital.
The viral post in which Uhuru Kenyatta mourned Kiptanui as “a hardworking Kenyan patriot who served the nation for many years with great distinction” was sent out on the official State House but was pulled down quickly.
