The stage is set for a major showdown after Deputy President William Ruto’s de facto spokesman and Soy MP Caleb Kositany confirmed plans to wrestle Jubilee party from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s strong grip.
The former Jubilee Deputy Secretary-General stated that the Tanga Tanga faction will go for different seats when the party conducts its elections and effectively regain control of the party.
In an interview with Nation, the Soy MP noted that the move will bring an end to alleged tyranny and discrimination that the Tanga Tanga brigade has been subjected to as the relationship between the President and his deputy took a dive.
“If they are men enough, let them call party elections today, we will sweep everything from their fold,” he stated.
He stated that anyone hoping that DP Ruto will resign is simply daydreaming and exuded confidence that Ruto and his allies will regain control of the party.
“Resignation is an act of cowardice, fight from within, expose them, let them play into your tricks, if we would have resigned how would Kenyans know that we have evils, dishonesty, tyrants, selfish, thankless people in Jubilee,” stated Kositany.
Weighing on the matter, political annalyst Jane Thuo slammed Tanga Tanga for being clueless and desperately picking fights they cannot win.
“Are they (Tangatanga members) so lost and out of ideas that they are tinkering over various ideas? As much as they are trying to latch on to Jubilee, they should take a political stand and stick with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA),” Thuo stated.
It remains unclear which political vehicle DP Ruto will use for his 2022 bid after falling out with his boss and with Jubilee party leadership throwing out his allies in a ruthless purge.
