Jubilee party candidate in the Bonchari by-elevctions, Zebedeo Opore has received a huge boost after a host of ODM leaders threw their weight behind him.

The latest developments leaves him as the clear front runner in the race that has attracted the interest of candidates from both ODM and Deputy President William Ruto-linked United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The polls are scheduled for 18 May 2021 with DP Ruto facing off with the president’s party in an epic clash.

Led by Ian Simba, the leaders under the umbrella of ODM Bonchari Supporters Network maintained that they are rallying behind the spirit of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader, Raila Odinga.

The move may have been sparked by outrage after the Orange party failed to conduct competetive nominations and instead handed over the ticket to Pavel Oimeke who was recently dismissed after allegedly requesting for hundreds of thousands in bribes from fuel station operators.

“Oimeke is barely three months as the party member. We want know whether due diligence was done before he was given the ticket,” Simba said.

The leaders maintained that they will continue supporting ODM and Raila Odinga after the by-election.

On her part, Bonchari’s Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson, Divinah Nyamao, said Opore has a proven development unlike other contenders who have nothing to show for it.

The seat fell vacant following the death of John Oroo Oyioka.
