Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has issued a statement just hours after a police officer attached to his office murdered his wife before shooting himself dead.
The shocking incident happened on 06 April when Constable Hudson Wakise shot his wife, Constable Pauline Wakise after a brief disagreement before turning the gun on himself at their Roysambu home.
In his statement, the CS noted that he was deeply pained by the tragi death of the couple whom he stated were young and vibrant.
He also noted that the tragedy has brought to light the psychological challenges that young officers face and which need to be addressed.
“It’s a rude awakening to psychological challenges amongst some of our young officers that we have no choice but to now pay greater attention to. My sincere condolences to their families and friends,” read his statement.
Wakise who was on leave until yesterday is reported to have left his workplace at around 3PM and headed to their Roysambu home where the tragic incident happened.
Wakise briefly talked to his wife and they started exchanging bitter words. The wife was accusing him of infidelity. As a result, Wakise went out of the house and shortly returned in the sitting room. He suddenly drew out his Jericho pistol s/no. KP- 44333035 and fired several rounds at his wife’s chest killing her instantly. He then turned the firearm to himself and shot on his chin,” reads a police report.
Investigations have been launched into the incident with the bodies moved to Kenyatta University Mortuary.
