Detectives are investigation an incident in which a Senior Officer at the US embassy in Nairobi was found hanging in his hotel room in what is suspected to be suicide.
Police reports as well as witness accounts reveal that the body of the deceased was found in his hotel room on Wednesday morning after he failed to show up at work.
Calls to his mobile phone went unanswered prompting a search which first led to his hotel room at the village market where his lifeless body was found.
A belt is believed to have been used according to witness accounts.
“The body was found hanging near the room window. He seemed to have died long before security arrived there,” said a police officer who was among the first to arrive at the scene of the incident.
The incident was confirmed by a US Embassy official who stated that “We can confirm the death of a US government employee. US Embassy Nairobi extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.”
A suicide note whose contents are yet to be revealed was found next to the bed after his hotel room was broken into.
As part of the investigations, the note will be subjected to examination to establish if he was the author
Alarm was raised after the man who was to relieve a colleague failed to show up at work forcing the embassy staff to go check on him.
The body was moved to the mortuary with police launching investigations into the matter.
