The latest realignments in Mount Kenya region have given National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi a major boost in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This us after he secured the endorsement of Members of county assemblies of Meru and Tharaka Nithi.
The MCAs maintained that Muturi as the right person to represent the views of the Mount Kenya region on the national table and guarantee them a place in the 2022 succession matrix.
Addressing the press today, April 11, the lawmakers maintained that Muturi, the region has a formidable leader and representative for all.
The endorsement by MCAs follows a prior one by elders from the Njuri Ncheke, Ngome, and Embu who installed him as the region’s spokesperson.
Led by Meru County Assembly Speaker Joseph Kaberia, the MCAs stated that Muturi had their full backing to negotiate on their behalf at the national scale.
“Issues to do with unity within the Mt Kenya East region we have agreed that come the next election, the region will be well placed. We don’t want to miss out on the next national government,” one MCA stated.
“We have had meetings with him, and we are glad to have him as our spokesperson. We have highlighted and agreed on the issues affecting our people and we believe he is the man to represent us on the national field,” another added.
Reports indicate that Speaker Muturi has held a series of meetings with religious leaders, elders and politicians in the region readying himself for the 2022 general election.
