Trade and Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has lifted the lid on his tense relationship with Deputy President William Ruto.
In a candid interview with NTV, CS who in 2019 was accused of hosting a meeting to plan the assassination of the DP, revealed that the incident was a turning point in their relationship.
He stated that since the incident, his relationship with the DP has been reduced to professional engagements, adding that they only interact during cabinet meetings at State House.
“We (referring to the DP) have not spoken for a while. We all meet in a work setting and I have only spoken to him during Cabinet meetings,” stated the CS.
Delving on the La Mada meeting where a plot to assasinate DP Ruto was allegedly discussed and which saw him together with counterparts Sicily Kariuki and Joe Mucheru (ICT) appear at the DCI headquarters to record statements , the CS maintained that it was all falsified as nothing tangible came out of it.
“The claims were never justified and the matter ended. It was all politics,” he disclosed.
The bad blood between the CS and DP Ruto has always been fodder for the press.
Most recently, the two clashed on 09 Feb 2021 during a burial ceremony in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard of Kiambu County.
DP Ruto set the stage for the clash with a fiery speech in which he slammed Mt. Kenya leaders, urging them to desist from tying down President Kenyatta with regional politics.
“The president is a leader of the whole country. I beg you as citizens and leaders of Mt Kenya, do not take the president away from us. “If you say the president is the leader of Mt Kenya, who will be the president of the rest of the country. We voted for him and we love him,” stated the DP.
Munya who delivered the President’s condolence message took the DP head-on, telling him off.
“We have never claimed the President serves Mt Kenya Region alone. The President is the leader of the whole country. Just the way he carries development projects across the country, he also develops Mt Kenya region” Munya stated.
