Drama as Makadara MP George Aladwa is chased from government offices [Video]

Drama ensued after Makadara MP George Aldawa was chased away from the National Government Offices in Nairobi.

The lawmaker had arrived at the Makadara Deputy County Commissioner’s office in the company of a crowd that protesting the demolition of their business premises when police officers turned him away.

Police officers manning the premises wanted nothing to do with the ODM lawmaker and swiftly turned him away, citing contravention of Covid-19 measures.

The lawmaker had gone to the premises armed with a court order to stop the eviction of 4,000 traders whose structures at Uhuru Market along Jogoo Road were brought down on 13 April 2021.

“We came to serve this court order but we were told that they were having tea and we should wait. Did they wait for our traders before demolishing their businesses?” argued Maringo/Hamza MCA Mark Ndung’u.

The Hamza MCA almost got into a fight with the police even as Aladwa claimed he had spent Ksh 200,000 to stop the evictions and vowed obtain another order to stop the ongoing construction on the land in question.

The Makadara lawmaker alleged that the land in question had been irregularly and illegally allocated to an investor of Eritrean nationality.

“Here is the court order and the receipt. We paid it without asking the traders for money. We will follow through until justice is served,” the MP said.

He accused the deputy county commissioner of colluding with land grabbers and spreading propaganda that the area MP was behind the market demolition.

Aladwa also pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene in the interest of the traders who are on the verge of losing their livelihoods as a result of the evictions.
