Barely a month after the formation of One Kenya Alliance bringing together Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Gideon Moi, the union is on the verge of disintegrating.
Reports indicate that the looming fallout has been occassioned by powerful forces keen on fronting a Musalia-Gideon presidential ticket that would relegate Kalonzo and Wetangula from the center of power.
As a result, the duo (Kalonzo and Wetangula) will have to settle for the the Prima Minister slot or the Deputy Prime Minister slot should the BBI referendum which promises an expanded executive sail through.
However, the Kalonzo camp wants the process of identifying the flag bearer halted until after the BBI referendum sails through, fearing that the constitutional ammendment may fail at the ballot, leaving them with no positions.
A close ally of the Wiper Party leader confided in the Star, stating that they will resist any attempt by powerful forces to prematurely impose a 2022 presidential pairing that excludes Kalonzo.
“The issue is yet to be formally deliberated on by the technical committee working on the alliance but there are strong winds blowing in favour of the Musalia-Gideon presidential ticket,” the lawmaker said on condition of anonymity.
“We will not accept, we better use a scientific method to arrive at the One Kenya alliance presidential flag-bearer and his running mate without being directed from somewhere,” the MP noted.
Kitui Senator Enock Wambua however exuded confidence that the One Kenya Alliance will remain united and will emerge victorious.
“Nobody has started this conversation, leave alone the pairing of the 2022 ticket. Those suggesting otherwise are our enemies who fear that if this alliance stands, it will sweep the country,” Wambua, a close Kalonzo ally, stated.
