Kenyans have in the recent past been treated to bitter divorce acses roping in prominent politicians and leaving behind broken hearts and marriages that ended in disappointment.

Most have been characterised by a bitter fight over property while others have exposed shameful details as couples take on each other with allegations of infidelity, neglect of marital responsibilities among others coming up.

A good number of the victims have moved on to seek love elsewhere while some are still fighting court battles and juggling the same with their political careers.

Alfred Mutua

The Machakos County Governor exchanged vows with his ex-wife and the mother of his children Ms. Josephine Thitu in July 2000.

Five years later, as Mutua’s career in civil service picked up, the couple separated in a nasty divorce on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.

At the center of the bitter divorce was the custody of their three children and a multi-million estate.

The wife later moved with the children to Australia, in what later saw Mutua meet and marry Lilian Ng’ang’a, his current wife in 2011.

Johnstone Muthama

The former Machakos senator’s divorce with his ex-wife Agnes Kavindu in 1983 saw the Muthama kick her out of their matrimonial home in Mua, Machakos County with the children.

The drama would continue decades later with Kavindu parading and mentioning a number of women that the former Machakos Senator has been romantically involved with in 2021, giving embarrassing details.

The divorce even saw Kavindu lose property dispute when she called on the court to stop Mr. Muthama from wasting, damaging, or interfering with his 50 percent shares.

Kalonzo Musyoka would be drawn into the mess, almost ending in a fist fight as the Machakos senatorial by-elections gathered momentum.
Gladys Boss Sholei

The once-flourishing marriage between Sam Sholei and Uasin Gishu County woman representative irretrievably broke down with no chance of salvaging it with the duo washing their dirty linen in public.

The bitter divorce saw Sam barred from accessing their Kitisuru and Plateau Estate in Eldoret after Gladys sought orders on grounds of violence and infidelity.

Their separation saw the former judiciary registrar write Sam a love poem that went viral reliving and praising their hay days as a young couple earlier this year.

Shortly afterwards, it emerged that the politician had also made arrangements and found love in the arms of a man of Caucassian decent.

Mithika Linturi

The Meru senator’s once rosy marriage with Marryane Keitany turned rocky in 2017 with allegations of theft, forgery, and infidelity surfacing in the courts.

The start of the relationship was as rocky as its end as it all started in Naivasha where Keitany was deployed to warm the bed of Linturi to prevent him from impeaching Anne Waiguru.

Their divorce got messy to the level of the senator throwing his family out of their Runda home.

Samburu senator Steve Lelegwe also recently married a second wife Irene Sais Nakae at a lavish wedding in Kajiado County after a bitter divorce from his first wife Beatrice.

The marriage later saw the legislator kick Beatrice out of their matrimonial home.
