Raila Odinga leads Kenyans in mourning prominent UoN professor

Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga is in mourning following the death of re-known scholar Professor Charles Odidi Okidi.

Taking to Twitter in his statement released earlier today, the former prime minister mourned the University of Nairobi don as an intellectual giant and passionate scholar.

Odinga acknowledged Okidi’s exemplary and passionate work in research, scholarship, development and governance leaving unfilled gap.

“I woke up to sad news of the passing of an intellectual giant and a dear friend of decades, Prof. Charles Okidi. Passionate about research, scholarship, development and governance, Okidi leaves a gap that will remain for long. I join family and academia in mourning him. RIP Prof,” Raila eulogized.

The sad news of his passing on comes just two months after releasing his book earlier this year “In pursuit of Excellence: Memoirs of Professor Charles Odidi Okidi” in January 2021.

The book launch was attended by among others, UoN Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama and Prof. Okidi’s peers – Prof. Patricia Kameri Mbote and Prof. Shem Wandiga.

The deceased professor founded the Centre for Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy at UoN.

Following his passing on colleagues, students and Kenyans at larged are pouring in their messages of comfort and condolences to the family.
