Renown economist and fierce government critic David Ndii is among those who have been brought on board by Deputy President William Ruto.
The economist confirmed the development stating:
“DP Ruto has reached out to me and Prof Ndung’u to assemble a team of leading brains especially in the economic field. I am always ready to assist on the same. The experts will be from various fields”.
Ndii will lead a team of experts comprising of some of the top brains who helped former President Mwai Kibaki plan and run the economy during his rule, a period which is widely recognised as Kenya’s best economic run.
The team is tasked with drafting the “Hustler Economic strategy” to be rolled out by the DP and which will be the backbone of his 2022 bid.
The strategy aims at curing Kenya’s economic ruin from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s “mess” which in effect is a mess created by Ruto who is the second in command having been in power for the last eight years.
“It’s a team of leading economic brains drawn from diverse fields of the economy,” Dyer and Blair’s former joint managing director Mohammed Hassan and Chairman of Kenya National Trading Corporation, said.
Others in the team include former CBK Governor Njuguna Ndung’u, Dr Jason Kapkirwok, Prof Larry Gumbe and Prof Raphael Munavu.
The team is credited with supporting President Mwai Kibaki during his tenure when Kenya witnessed the best economic growth.
Three years, ago, Ndii threatened to move out of Kenya should Ruto become president only to end up working for the same man he does not want to be President.
“I am making plans just in case. I have no intention of living in a country governed by a neurotic megalomaniac,” said Ndii at the time as reported by The Standard here.
Ruto hopes to take Kenya back to the glory days with his agenda focusing on the hustlers and bottom-up economic growth model that has also been adopted by US President Joe Biden.
