Popular Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi has announced the return of the Wife Material Show, season 2 after the controversial show came to an abrupt end when sleuths raided his studio in Lavington, arresting the cast.

The self-declared ‘President of Comedy in Africa’ divulged that the show will make a come-back on 24th May and will feature 15 contestants from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in what is promising to be a hotter season.

The show which was short-lived had its fair share of drama and challenges before it was shelved following a series of run-ins with KFCB boss, Ezekiel Mutua who outrightly condemned it.

The second season of the show was unveiled on 08 March and two days later (10 March 2021)Season 2 contestants were involved in a physical fight at a city club during his Birthday party.

A video shared by Omondi via his Instagram captures the contestants exchanging blows to an extent of forcing police officers and stewards who were providing security at the club to intervene.

A day after the fight (11 March 2021) Eric was arrested alongside the show’s cast for breaking the law and detained at Central Police Station before he was released alongside the cast.

In a statement, Kenya Film and Classification Board said that the comedian was arrested for contravening the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222, which prohibits production and distribution of unauthorized films, and in this case his Wife Material series.

He eventually postponed the show on 19 March 2021 and linked the same with a long break needed to send off the Late Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli.

Omondi said the decision owed to the fact that production “will take time to celebrate and mourn” the late President Magufuli. He further added that this decision was made “out of honor and respect for our brothers and sisters from Tanzania.”

Among the changes that the comedian revealed will be effected is that the show will be PG rated, therefore not suitable for children.
