Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has criticized the National Police Service (NPS) over the handling of the Juja by-election, arguing that Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai is the worst police boss in Kenya’s history.
On Wednesday, NPS released a statement applauding its officers for ensuring law and order was maintained during the three by-elections in the country.
According to Mutyambai, minor incidents were reported during the by-elections, adding that those arrested will be dealt with in accordance to the law.
“I wish to assure Kenyans that minor cases reported to police will be dealt with appropriately and anyone found culpable presented before the courts.
“I also wish to commend our police officers for carrying out their mandate of maintaining law and order with outmost restrain and dignity thus ensuring lives and livelihoods were safeguarded,” Mutyambai said.
Reacting to the statement, Moses Kuria claimed that the Juja by-election was marred by hooliganism and accused Kiambu County Commander Ali Nuno of overseeing the same.
“Mr Mutyambai, there were goons led by Kiambu Governor James Nyoro who stormed stations 1 and 2 at JKUAT DEB with marked ballots. They were supervised and coordinated by your County Commander Ali Nuno.
“They almost overpowered IEBC officials and actually shot in the air. A video of Ali Nuno coordinating this are in my FB timeline. And you call this minor? You are the worst Head of Police in Kenya since independence,” he posted on Facebook.
