Death strikes Kenya’s Legislature as another lawmaker succumbs to cancer

Meru County assembly and Central Imenti’s Kiagu ward are in mourning following the untimely death of the area ward representative Eunice Kirimi Karegi.


Taking to Twitter Machakos County governor Alfred Mutua made public the death of his Maendeleo Chap Chap party member earlier today.


Eunice passed on todaywhile undergoing treatment at a hospital in India after a long an unsuccesful battle with cancer.
In his eulogy to the departy MCA, Dr. Mutua the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader described Ms Karegi as sharp, pleasant and focused person who was faithful to the part.

“I pass my & MCC party condolences & to the family of our Maendeleo Chap Chap elected MCA Hon. Eunice Karimi Karegi of Kiagu Ward, Central Imenti constituency, Meru County who succumbed to cancer. Eunice was a faithful party member, sharp, pleasant & focused person. Rest In Peace,” governor Mutua wrote on Twitter.


She was one of the two women elected to the Meru County Assembly under the umbrella of the Mutua-led Maendeleo Chap Chap party.


Meru County assembly speaker Joseph Kaberia also described her death as a great loss to the assembly and her Kiagu constituent.


“On my behalf and entire Meru assembly fraternity, I convey our sincere condolences to family, friends, people of Kiagu and entire county government of Meru,” Kaberia stated.


Following her death messages of comfort and condolence pour in from her family, friends and colleagues.
Burial plans are currently underway to give the departy legislator a befitting sendoff.
