Wealthy Senator loses chopper in tragic crash


The aircraft investigating authority are still investigating the Sunday 30 May 2021, incident where the chopper that had flown the ODM leader Raila Odinga from Kisumu to Gem in Nyanza.


The light aircraft there after crashed at Ngodhe Primary minutes after dropping the former premier and his team while trying to take off.


Reports indicate that the aircraft type 5Y PSM Bell 407 helicopter operating under Penial Air and is owned by veteran politician and Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina.


Further information show that a brand new Bell 407 helicopter retails at about Sh300 million and flies at a speed of over 260 kilometers per hour at an altitude of 5,000 370 meters.


Police reports indicate that the aircraft crashed just moments after being airborne, and 5 metres above the ground.


There were no reported deaths in the incident with incidental reports indicating that the aircraft was written off immediately after the accident.

The incident preceeded yet another crash at the Coastals Taita Taveta County’s Vuria Hill yesternight killing all it’s occupants.


The light aircraft, a Cessna C172 Caravan Reg No. 5Y CFE crashed in due to invisibilty from the fog at the Dawida Massif.


It happened at around 7.30 PM with reports indicating that it was headed to Mombasa from Arusha Tanzania, with the Standard reporting that the aircraft had flown from Wilson Airport in Nairobi..
