A daring gang of armed men Sunday, June 6 reigned terror in former President Mwai Kibaki’s neighbourhood along Tchui Road, Muthaiga.
Confirming the incident, Starehe Sub-County Police Commander Julius Kiragu stated that the robbers held businessman Harish Patel at gunpoint during the daring heist.
Patel is the owner of Kenya Horticultural Export Ltd, a company that deals in agricultural produce.
The robbery saw the gang make away with Ksh20 million and expensive jewellery.
Detectives who suspected an inside job executed in collaboration with Patel’s workers are investigating the incident.
A police report filed in relation to the incident indicates that three armed men entered the building after scaling the businessman’s perimeter wall.
They were reported to have accessed the compound after cutting the electric fence before jumping into the compound.
Three workers within premises and a security guard who was on duty were tied up using ropes and locked in one of the rooms.
The gang then proceeded to hold Patel and his family at gunpoint and making away with cash and valuables.
The robbers used tomato crates to scale off the perimeter wall after conducting the covert 30 minutes robbery that did not draw the attention of Patel’s neighbours.
Officers investigating the matter believe that the gang had knowledge of the businessman’s whereabouts, cash and gold he possessed in his house as well as a blueprint of his mansion.
“The robbers directed the house help to take them to the room where the family was. The house girl took the keys to the main house and opened the door for them.
“So far we have not arrested anyone, we have, however, interrogated all the employees. We have also taken their mobile phone numbers for analysis to establish if they were in communication with the suspects,” Kiragu disclosed.
