The family of the late Chris Kirubi has revealed details of his final days alive and the last assignment he undertook after doctors broke the sad news that his chances of survival were slim.
In the week leading up to Sunday, before his death on Monday (14 June 2021), his medical team had broken the sad news to him that his chances of surviving were slim and doctors advised that he put his affairs in order in preparation for the impending eventuality.
He experienced difficulty breathing on Sunday evening and was put on oxygen. However, the complications persisted and he passed on the following day.
The billionaire industrialist was ssurrounded by members of his family as he took his last breath.
Kirubi took action immediately and began putting his affairs in order such as writing his will in which he bequeathed his vast wealth to those closest to his heart.
One of the medics in his medical team divulged that Kirubi preferred being attended to at his home where he had built a state-of-the-art ICU.
The family revealed he was suffering from brain cancer.
Kirubi had in the past disclosed that the cancer had affected his eyes, lungs and kidneys.
His requiem mass was full of glowing tributes as many recounted their moments with the deceased industrialist.
ODM leader Raila Odinga eulogized the deceased billionaire as a man who had passion for excellence and never took shortcuts, revealing that he recommended the hospital which Kirubi visited in the US for treatment.
“Chris was a visionary person who had a passion for excellence and wanted only the best for his country, Kenya,” Odinga stated.
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka also revealed that in the wake of the disputed 2007 general elections, the tycoon convinced him to negotiate his Vice President position with retired President Mwai Kibaki.
“We are here to celebrate a great Kenyan, a statesman,” Kalonzo added.
“We appreciate Chris for all the lives that he touched. We are grateful to him and we say ‘Rest in Peace, may the Lord Bless you,” Rachel Ruto eulogised.
