Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has expressed optimism that ODM leader Raila Odinga will form the next government.

Wamalwa says the former Prime Minister stands a better chance to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta under the Azimio la Umoja movement even as he brushed aside the prospects of One Kenya Alliance (OKA) in the August 2022 poll.

“Let no one lie to you that OKA will form a government. In Kenya, we only have two horses. It’s between Raila and (Deputy President William) Ruto.” he said

According to Wamalwa ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula are wasting time pushing for an alternative force in next year’s elections. He urged them to decide on who to back to before it’s too late.

“Our brothers cannot continue sitting on the fence. I told Musalia and Wetangula if they continue sitting on the fence, our people will be out of the government. Our people want to be part of the government under Azilio la Umoja spearheaded by Raila Odinga.” charged the CS

He said the recently-launched Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) will work with like-minded parties in Azimio la Umoja coalition.

Wamalwa spoke when he, alongside DAP-K Party leader Wafula Wamunyinyi received 7 MCAs from Trans Nzoia county and 4 MCAs from Bungoma county who defected from Wetangula’s Ford Kenya.

“This is a new beginning. The team you just saw here heralds a new start to our region and the politics of Western Kenya. We had Ford Kenya. Today we decided to come here to tell you we are moving away from the stagnation that is in Ford Kenya so that we can walk towards better things.” He said

The CS further confirmed that the party will be fronting Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat in next year’s poll.
