Hon. Mosiria made an impromptu visit to Pumwani Maternity Hospital in Nairobi County.

After a colorful launch earlier last month, an event graced by Nairobi Governor Sakaja gracing a thanksgiving ceremony for Geoffrey Mosiria at KICC for being an outstanding chief of staff now Mosiria has made a comeback.

Mosiria after the ceremony was termed an Omogusii mediator in Nairobi.

Mosiria made a surprise visit and held a successful meeting with youth leaders/ professionals drawn from different parts of Nairobi comprising of former and current student leaders, political aspirants, corporate leaders, staff from independent bodies, and chairs of various lobby groups.

During a short meeting and addressing the media, the groups thanked Hon. Johnson A. Sakaja for entrusting Hon. Mosiria to serve in his administration alongside his brother Michira.

During the address, Mosiria revealed crucial stages he has made to unite the Gusii region in Nairobi bringing unity and inclusivity of young and brilliant generations within the city and the support he has selflessly and indiscriminately offered to not only Gusii people but also to Kenyans.

The leaders noted that the lacuna, which has been in existence for years, has since been substantively filled by Hon. Geoffrey Mosiria owing to the fact that order has been restored in proper Gusii community representation in the current administration, unlike in the past regimes.

“It is in the public domain that our community has been wallowing in political confusion, it has come to a time we make our one million votes here in Nairobi count,” Cyrus Matoke an attendee speaks.

Hon. Mosiria accepted the role of leading the Kisiis in Nairobi and sought continuous support from the community, which he is currently enjoying and firmly dispensing.

He unambiguously opined how he has done his best in helping those who have sought his assistance where he had jurisdiction.

“I will soldier on the end and not only shed light in the economy but selflessly work and make Nairobi work, it’s possible I will deliver and make my boss great in delivering his mandate.” Hon Mosiria said.

Getting a piece of land in Nairobi and it’s outskirts is not just a Tom Dick and HarryAfter Newlife SDA Church did a crusade in December 2022 Maili 46 in Iloodokilani Ward, Kajiado West Sub County on the way to Namanga along the Murram road aroughly about one and a half hours drive.
The House of God conducted a crusade and unfortunately, they didn’t secure land to build a temple for worship. Along that area, an acre goes for about 2 million which they couldn’t raise.
After back and forth, the church hoped that local administration could allocate them some land after doing five visits unsuccessfully.
When the church leadership efforts did not bear any fruits they were demoralized by the situation and almost quit the fight.
The area chief who is a pastor name (withheld) as revealed by a sensational Pastor Elizabeth Mokoro proposed to the church that he (chief) has been blessed by a certain woman on social media and if they bring the woman (Pastor Mokoro) he will bless the church with a piece of land to set a house of worship.
Pastor Elizabeth Mokoro states during the preaching,
Mokoro speaks. “So the senior area chief says there’s a woman that has blessed my life on social media. If you can get a hold of her and bring her here and I see her face to face, I will give you a piece of it has not been easy due to my busy schedule. But I told them to squeeze some time as I come to Donhom.”
Pst. Mokoro revealed to the congregation that the Chief is also a bishop who manages a church along Namanga highway in the Kajiado West sub-county.
Pst. Mokoro with Newlife followers did a surprise visit as she narrated. “So when we go to the church, also, it was a surprise visit. He also didn’t know we were coming. Then he saw me and programmes changed. He said now you’re preaching today. We had no intentions of teaching. So we had to preach.”
After the sermon according to Pst Mokoro, she told the congregation that the Bishop (area chief) rose and said the land is given at least 3-5 acre. an act Mokoro says is a huge blessing for the community.
During a private conversation with other leaders, the Bishop (Chief) revealed how Mokoro had blessed his life. Mokoro told the congregation how the chief has a lavish office in Kajiado.
The chief told Pst. Mokoro that he will start the transferring steps of the land through the authorities to the church following the administrative process
Mokoro reveals, “They will allocate them about three to five acres as planned. I’m happy for the power of God’s intervention and I hope for the best.”
Furthermore, Mokoro praised how New Life SDA church conducts its activities, “and the way of evangelizing that in a treating an entered place they don’t just set up a church. They set up a school and even the locals will not give you land if it’s just for church. They want something that can help the local community.”
The Kajiado area is one of the prime places.
Pst Mokoro shared a light moment when she saw beautiful wild animals she had never seen face to face.
“The road is not there yet, but very prime. Still in the wild. I met an ostrich I saw a giraffe and they stay with those things like this is someone’s house. The giraffe is here. Beautiful place. That is our God’s works. It’s my prayer this week. It doesn’t ever happen like this.”
Finally, Pst Mokoro praised the move revealing how the the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior & National Administration with county government is set to launch the foundation of the church in a few days to come.

  • What is the impact on African businesses

What is the impact on African businesses

By Kenny Nwosu, Chief Executive Officer, Norsad Capital

When we think about the impact that private credit and other forms of financing have on African companies, we tend to think about things like business growth and success. But the impact that private capital in particular has goes far beyond that. Utilized properly, it can have an incredibly powerful and positive effect on the lives and livelihoods of ordinary Africans.

That’s true not only when it comes to things like job creation. Private credit in the right sectors can make it that much easier for Africans to get to their jobs, seek out healthcare, and to have permanent, affordable energy, and many other things.

That’s especially true in cases where the private credit provider has a social impact remit and is aligned with things like the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The power of private credit in the African context

Before taking a deeper look at how big a positive impact private credit can have on African lives and livelihoods, it’s worth understanding what exactly it is and why it’s so powerful in the African context.

In essence, private credit involves non-bank lenders providing loans to companies. While these companies vary in size, they’re typically focused on small and medium-sized businesses or those that aren’t suited to equity investment.

That’s particularly important in the African context, where there’s much less equity-style investment available in certain sectors and where that kind of investment isn’t always suitable to a company’s needs. In terms of available investment, the tech startup space provides a useful benchmark. Despite African startups achieving USD2.1bn in VC funding in H1 2023, that’s still a fraction of the USD 85.6bn in H1 2023 raised by US startups over the same period (which was 46% down on the previous year).

It’s also true that some companies aren’t suited to the kind of accelerated returns that equity-style investors look for. Private credit providers, by contrast, are able to take a more long-term approach, meaning that the companies who receive the credit are able to grow at a more sustainable pace.

    Improved impact through collaboration

That, in turn, means that they have more time to have a tangible impact. We’ve seen this first-hand with our own portfolio companies. With just over USD235 million in assets under management (USD56.5 million was spread across 13 companies in 2022.), we’ve helped those companies touch the lives of tens of millions of people. In fact, by the end of 2021, 35.5 million lives had been positively impacted, which is just over a third of the 100 million people we hope to impact by 2030. Our partner portfolio companies also supported 15 142 jobs in 2022, with 43% of these held by women and 20% by the youth.

We’re not the only ones having that kind of impact either. Take TLG Capital, for example. Its Africa Growth Impact Fund (AGIF) provides open-ended credit fund investing in sub-Saharan Africa with superior risk-adjusted returns and a multifaceted high social impact. In line with this, the Funds aims to meaningfully contribute to women’s economic empowerment and influence. As a result of its efforts, TLG AGIF, now fulfills the 2x Challenge Criteria 5 – Investment through Financial Intermediaries. In healthcare, one of the companies has distributed over 284 million EU-compliant medications since 2020 across some of Africa’s poorest countries, another has manufactured medication for over 1,000,000 Ugandans currently receiving HIV treatment.

But we also recognise that impact can be strengthened through collaboration. That’s why we inked a partnership deal with TLG Capital in December 2022. The partnership allows both of our companies to enhance the impact our various portfolio companies have, thanks to strengthened sharing, presenting, and co-investing in well-structured credit investment opportunities.

It’s a collaboration that is already proving its benefit and is something we hope to see happening more frequently across the continent.

    Driving sustainable development

Ultimately, it’s important to remember that Africa has so many of the right ingredients to become a global economic superpower. It has a young, increasingly well-connected population with high proportions of entrepreneurs. But it also has a unique opportunity to take a sustainable development path as it heads towards that pinnacle.

One of the most powerful tools available when it comes to the continent reaching that point is private credit. When an organisation provides that credit with a social impact remit, it can help companies grow at a natural pace and in a way that allows them to maximise their own impact.

But if we want private credit to play the role it has the potential to, then it’s imperative that players in the sector foster a sense of collaboration and work together to provide the most positive possible impact on the lives and livelihoods of ordinary Africans.

  • Is it time for a win for terror attack victims after a 20-Year Struggle?

Is it time for a win for terror attack victims after a 20-Year Struggle?

Senate Ad Hoc Committee pushing for compensation to the Kenyan victims hooked Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua over the situation to confirm his plans for the victims.

Sen Kavindu led the committee received good news from the CS Mutua that a dedicated desk to handle matters exclusively concerning the survivors of the 1998 Bombing Attack has been placed.

Appearing before the Senate Ad Hoc Committee pushing for compensation to the Kenyan victims, Mutua acknowledged that he was aware of the complaints lodged by the survivors and families of the victims and promised to lobby American legislators to take up the issue when he attends the 2023 United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit in New York slated for September.

Mutua agreed with the senator’s views that the compensation was long overdue.

“The American legislators need to amend their laws so that our people can be compensated. So, we must do a lot of lobbying. As the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, the ball is in my court and I’m ready to do just that,” Mutua said.

CS Mutua told the committee that he will collaborate with the legislators to ensure that the weight that the survivors have been carrying is lifted off their shoulders.

The former Machakos Governor told the committee that, the desk is essential, especially considering that the survivors have been knocking on the doors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs without any luck for over two decades.

He regretted that the survivors had been frustrated as both the Kenyan and American governments failed to commit to compensating them for being negatively impacted by the tragic incident.

The Senators led by Committee Chairperson and Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, reiterated the need for the victims to be compensated soon.

The Senators led by Hon Kavindu added that they were willing to support the Ministry in any way necessary to ensure justice is served to the survivors.

“The Ministry’s role includes diplomacy, negotiation, conflict resolution, and humanitarian assistance. All these roles are aimed at advancing Kenya’s interests. We’ll only achieve the compensation of our people if we work together,” Sen Kavindu affirmed.

To hasten the process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the committee scheduled future meetings to discuss ways to get support from their American counterparts.

During the devastating terror attack in 1998, at the US embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, more than 220 people tragically lost their lives, and numerous others suffered severe injuries.

The young and brilliant UDA Nominated Senator has moved with speed and her presence has been felt after she staged a bill on the Senate floor to recognize gusii heroism.

National Heroes Council now is considering a monument in Manga, Kitutu, or Kisii town to honor Abagusii’s prophetess and medicine woman, Moraa Ng’iti.

The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage plans to create a County Heroes Square in Kisii County, where all liberation heroes from the region will be honoured through monuments and permanent and seasonal thematic exhibitions.

The Council has responded o Senator Esther Okenyuri’s request for a statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding the neglect and marginalization of the Abagusii Community’s role in the fight for independence.

Okenyuri has called for the recognition of Abagusii community heroes and heroes in the National Archives and the inclusion of them in the school curriculum.

The Council’s request for an enhancement fund of Sh20 million from the National Treasury is appreciated.

The Kenya Constitution 2010 acknowledges that the cultural activities and identities of various Kenyan communities have contributed to Kenya’s modern nationhood, and the heroism of the men and women who defended and promoted the welfare of their communities during the pre-colonial period could be considered inspiration for the struggle for Kenya’s independence.

In a statement she thanked the National Heroes Council for giving a positive response her request of having Abagusii Community Heroes and Heroines in the struggle of independence led by Moraa Ng’iti among others recognized and featured in our National Archives and School curriculum as a National Heroes and Heroines just like the likes of Mekatilili Wamenza of Giriama Community.

“This is a step towards connecting with our past and that surely motivates us thereby dictating our future.” Sen Okenyuri writes.

She adds “National Heroes Council has placed a request for enhancement fund from the National treasury amounting to Ksh 20 Million within the financial year 2023/2024.”
