Kenya’s Rayton Okwiri’s WBO Africa super welterweight title fight against Ghana’s Patrick Allotey scheduled for this Sunday in Accra has been put off indefinitely.
Allotey (41-3, 31KOs) is reported to have injured his shoulder during a training session, and he is unable to face Okwiri (8-0-1, 6 KOs).
Gideon Oyiadzo Jingles, the Manager and PRO of Cabic Promotions told Nunez Media Services they’re devastated by the sudden twist of events in this fight.
Said Jingles: “We are all shocked to wake up to such sad news. Patrick Allotey had a shoulder injury during training and cannot fight. He is currently being treated by our doctors; they will have to declare him fit before we can advise on the way forward. Sorry about this. Our kind regards to Rayton and the team; we looked forward to a good fight and a win for Allotey.”
On his part, Okwiri treated the news with a pinch of salt, saying he’s not convinced.
“Allotey is just scared of me, I’m ready for him when he recovers. I’m so disappointed, I hope they’ll compensate me for the expenses I incurred in training,” said Okwiri, the last Kenyan boxer to reach the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
With Okwiri v Allotey fights off, Jingles said they’ll still go ahead with the December 26 card with the main fight featuring Ghana’s Joseph Akai Nettey (3-0, 3 KOs) and Tanzania’s Juma Islam Sule (2-1-2, 1 KO).
The two boxers will vie for Royal Boxing Organization (RBO) light-flyweight title. RBO is a sanctioning body based in Luxembourg founded in 2017.
The Great North Rift Elephant campaign walk took 31 days. The walk started on November 16th, 2021, and concluded on December 17th, 2021 in Mt Elgon National Park. The walk was led by Jim Nyamu O.G.W, The Executive Director, Elephant Neighbors Center.
Mr. Jim Nyamu was flagged off at the St. George’s Girls Secondary school by Tourism and Wildlife Principal secretary Prof. Fred Segor. “I applaud the work done by the civil society and individuals such as Jim who remind us of a responsibility in wildlife and environment conservation,” says the P.S.
The walk started in St. George’s Girls secondary school Nairobi towards Ewaso Kedong, Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Chemelil, Nandi hills, Kapsabet, Eldoret, Kitale, and finally to the Mt. Elgon National Park.
Jim Nyamu, a scientist, has walked 17,776kms since the campaign started in 2013. He has walked extensively in Kenya and across Africa to Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, and Botswana. He has also walked in the United Kingdom and the United States advocating for elephant conservation.
“It’s worrying that elephants are wiped out day after day and our parks have become battlegrounds for illegal poachers and security agencies. “Kenya in 1979 had 167,000 elephants but the number has dropped to 35,000 following high demand for ivory in some Asian countries. Some countries lost their elephants completely, countries like Eritrea, Somalia, and Senegal and it is a truly sad state of those nations.”
While holding community meetings in Narok, Jim had a hard time talking to those who felt like they have been left to suffer wildlife loss due to delays in compensations. He challenged them to visit other areas such as Shombole and learn more about community conservation, practices, and governance in wildlife conservation. “In his opinion, he states there’s a lack of sincere leadership in wildlife conservation. It is time to agree that we have to come together and chat about the new conservation path toward a new conservation model.
This was his14th walk edition, he did not tire nor surrender. He stated that the world is facing the biggest problem than before, climate change is a reality! The world needs to know that we need to preserve natural resources and environmental issues are areas of major focus.
The Great North Rift Elephant campaign that crossed 11 counties, challenged the county governments to implement environmental and conservation policies at their discretion. The environment is now devolved to County governments and there is a need to have a multi-sectoral implementation and enforcement approach, the campaign identified gaps in the enforcement between National and county governments.
The campaign observed the following with great concerns:
1. Washing of vehicles in all major rivers along the routes and major towns
2. Bushmeat consumption and practice in Maasai Mara and her environs.
3. Encroachment of Sitatunga habitats I.e. King’wal swamp in Nandi county.
4. Inadequate resource distribution in KWS station’s and outposts
In the 31 days, he visited 36 schools where he planted and donated a total of 18,456 ingenious trees with huge support from regional Kenya Forest offices. Urging the students he often used the phrase “Sisi ndio to” make them understand that they are the generation to save and secure the environment ” There is simply no issue more important. Conservation is the preservation of human life on earth, and that, above all else, is worth fighting for,” says Nyamu.
We must let the global community know that African elephants are in danger from man. Extinction is forever and we cannot imagine Africa without elephants.
The Elephant Neighbors Center is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect the African elephants and secure landscapes for elephants outside protected areas. Sarah ‘Angel of Death’ Achieng is the new Female Commonwealth Superlight weight champion.
The reigning Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) InterContinental Female Lightweight titleholder defeated Anisha ‘the Massacre’ Basheel of Malawi 100-80, 98-92,100-90 in a 10 round title fight at Charter Hall in Nairobi, powered by 22Bet, on Wednesday to add another feather to her cup.
Superb Achieng dominated almost all the rounds.
None was settled in the opening round, but Achieng managed to land some clean punches on Basheel’s temple.
Basheel guarded well in the second round, but Achieng broke her lock with ferocious uppercuts.
Buoyed by home support, Achieng had a field day in the third round, pounding the Malawian army officer like yam.
Basheel, who had resorted to leaning on the ropes, was saved by the bell in the round.
Achieng continued to breeze in her showpiece in the fourth round, she even shook her waist to the blaring music from the giant speakers in the hall.
There was no place for Basheel to hide in the fifth and sixth rounds as Achieng landed on her like a thud of brick, disfiguring her temple with superb hooks.
Both were abit exhausted in the seventh round, one of their uppercuts landed on their targets.
Basheel seemed to have resigned to fate in the eighth round, giving Achieng the leeway to continue pounding her mercilessly.
Achieng was abit exhausted in the ninth and tenth rounds, she contained her opponent by not lowering her guard till the period, which seemed like an eternity, was ended by the bell, declaring her the new Female Commonwealth Superlight weight titleholder.
At the same time, the East and Central Africa champion Victor ‘Vikings’ Wesonga endured 10 grueling rounds to beat tough-talking Ali Bakari of Tanzania 97-93,100-90,99-91 for the vacant men’s Pugilist of Tanzania (PST) belt.
Bakari charged in the ring ferociously with threatening punches but Wesonga dodged them with Mohammed Ali’s ‘sting like-a-bee-dance-like-a butterfly’ classic moves.
It was not until the sixth round that Wesonga contained the Tanzanian who boasts of three victories, all on Knock Out
(KOs), since turning pro in 2019.
“It’s good I have sent him back home with some boxing lessons,” Wesonga said.
The victory took Wesonga’s tale of the tape to four wins including three KOs and a draw.
Opening the day was the men’s Supermiddle weight four round non-fight pitting Kennedy Opiyo against Dan Oluoch.
Heavy punching Oluoch managed to carry the day after he carded 40-36, 39-37 and 40-36 against his never-say-die opponent.
Spirited James Mugeni had a walk in the park as he cleared Edwin Marshal via Technical Knockout (TKO) in men’s Bantamweight duel.
Mugeni took just 1 minute 36 seconds to finish off Marshal who seemed to have lost his stability in the second round.
The three-bench-judge had to halt the one sided bout to save Marshal from further pounding.
Albert Kimaru floored Lameck Asenga at the bell in the first round to emerge winner of the men’s Superbantam weight on TKO.
Women’s six-round Superlight weight fight involving Joyce Awino against Nicoline Achieng was declared a unanimous draw by the judges.
Imposing Awino scored 57,57,55-59,57-57 against resilient Achieng.
Tactical Emmanuel Chivoli beat Augustine Wafula 59-54,60-53,60-53 in the men’s six-round Lightweight duel.
Consolata Musanga and Jane Kavulani had an entertaining six-round bout in women’s Superfeather weight which ended in another unanimous draw.
Richard Okoth found the going tough in the third round of men’s Superlight weight which was won by hard punching George Onyango on TKO in 2 minutes 16 seconds.
Okoth threw in the towel after he could not contain Onyango’s shoulder punch that landed well on his body.

Liverpool’s quiet summer transfer window was well documented as they look to wrestle back their Premier League crown.
The Reds’ resources came under the spotlight last term as defensive injuries took apart their backline.
In response Ibrahima Konate arrived from RB Leipzig but the centre-half remained the only marquee signing.
Jurgen Klopp has been happy to prioritise continuity over fresh faces with Liverpool’s XI largely maintaining the same look for several years now.
Critics have argued that the Reds missed a trick in not being more aggressive in the transfer market.
The departure of Gini Wijnaldum certainly leaves a sizeable hole, but Klopp has backed youth to fill the void.
We take a look at the club’s summer dealings.
All three found themselves sidelined for lengthy periods which left Klopp light at the back.
He raided the Bundesliga outfit to sign Konate, a man who had long been on his radar.
The Frenchman looks ready made to suit the Premier League and has had Champions League exposure, which will also be a plus.
Klopp will now have to settle on a centre-back pairing as there will be a reluctance to keep chopping and changing.
It means Konate may find himself as a sub more often to start with before he looks to assert himself, potentially at Joe Gomez’s expense.
Losing a player of the Dutchman’s calibre is never easy, but having to go on without a replacement just deepens the blow.
It became apparent around the New Year that Wijnaldum was unlikely to sign a new deal but he continued to be a regular.
Eventually he left for PSG and Liverpool opted against adding a replacement.
Now Klopp is lucky enough to have a host of options at his disposal in the middle of the park and Harvey Elliott is set to be the big winner.
Nevertheless, Wijnaldum has been a crucial part of Liverpool’s success and letting him go without adding someone of similar quality may prove costly.
It was something of a double edged sword this.
Wilson had proven at Bournemouth that he was capable of playing top flight football, having impressed on loan.
Last season he again headed away, this time to Championship side Cardiff City, and has now moved to Fulham.
If Wilson were going to be handed a first team run you’d have thought Klopp would’ve done so by now.
Failing to do so perhaps suggested he was happy to look elsewhere, and getting north of £10m for him represents good business.
The Swiss star headed to Anfield on a free and has proved to be a good squad player, so whatever decision Liverpool made was going to be a good one.
Shaqiri’s two goals against Manchester United in 2018 will ensure he lives long in the memory of the Anfield faithful.
The 29-year-old has moved to Lyon for just shy of £10m.
Opportunities were set to be few and far between so there was a willingness from the player to move on and the cash from his sale helped counteract the investment in Konate.
The likes of Ben Davies, Rhys Williams and Sepp van den Berg have all headed to the Championship on loan.
Sheffield United, Swansea and Preston have been the three teams to profit – and Liverpool will hope to do so in the long-term.
Williams penned a new deal before he left and there may well be long-term hopes for the defender.
Davies was signed last year but is yet to play. That said, if a loan move can increase his resale value Liverpool will consider that good business.
The same can be said for Van den Berg, who has already scored twice in seven games.
Arsenal have taken a step closer to signing Martin Odegaard after the player completed his medical, while Aaron Ramsdale is also having a medical at the club.
Norwegian international Odegaard is expected to join Arsenal from Real Madrid for an initial £30m fee plus bonuses of around £4m.
Although personal terms have been agreed already, the 22-year-old is unlikely to take part in Sunday’s game against Chelsea as his visa application process is ongoing.
Players arriving from an EU country require a Governing Body Exemption (GBE) before they can register.
Odegaard spent the second half of last season on loan with the Gunners after failing to break into the Real Madrid team under Zinedine Zidane.
He made 20 appearances across all competitions, with one of his two goals coming in the north London derby win over Tottenham in March.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are keen to get a £24m deal done for Ramsdale from Sheffield United so the goalkeeper can be part of the squad for Sunday’s game.
The fee could rise by another £6m in add-ons depending on whether Ramsdale becomes the Gunners’ long-term No 1.
Ramsdale has been on boss Mikel Arteta’s radar this summer, having originally joined Sheffield United from Bournemouth in 2020.
Bournemouth are entitled to a 15 per cent sell on of anything over £19m, and the 23-year-old’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium would likely see back-up goalkeeper Alex Runarsson allowed to leave the club.
He was Sheffield United’s player of the season despite their relegation last term and the same was the case in his final season at Bournemouth in 2019/20.
Ramsdale was part of England’s Euro 2020 squad which reached the final, but is yet to make his full international debut.
Manchester United and Scotland legend Denis Law has been diagnosed with mixed dementia.
Law, 81, said he wants to be open about his condition and address the situation before his health deteriorates.
“It is an incredibly challenging and problematic disease and I have witnessed many friends go through this,” said Law, who was diagnosed with both Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.
“You hope that it won’t happen to you, even make jokes about it whilst ignoring the early signs because you don’t want it to be true. You get angry, frustrated, confused and then worried, worried for your family, as they will be the ones dealing with it.
“However, the time has come to tackle this head on, excuse the pun. I recognise how my brain is deteriorating and how my memory evades me when I don’t want it to and how this causes me distress in situations that are beyond my control.
“I do understand what is happening and that is why I want to address my situation now whilst I am able, because I know there will be days when I don’t understand, and I hate the thought of that right now.”
Law’s diagnosis comes a year after his former Manchester United team-mate Sir Bobby Charlton was also diagnosed with dementia. The pair make up two-thirds of the United Trinity statue overlooking Old Trafford along with fellow great George Best.
