Muslim Leaders condemns Israel’s latest raid on Masjid al-Aqsa attacks

The National Muslim Leaders forum has condemned the raid on Masjid al-Aqsa saying that the attack was carried out Wednesday 05 April 2023, during the holy month of Ramadan, terming it as a ‘terrorist state’.

Muslim leaders have said that Surrounding the Al-Qibli Prayer Hall, Israeli police went up to the roof of the mosque, smashed some of the windows, and initially intervened with sound bombs against the worshippers inside after Jewish settlers called for a raid on the mosque saying that Israeli police detained around 450 worshippers from inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex.

“Israeli police armed with batons, tear gas grenades, and smoke bombs, burst into the mosque “by
force” and “beat the women and men” worshipping there. One video widely circulated on social
media showed police clubbing people on the floor inside the mosque.” Muslim leaders said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said it had treated over 50 people, including some after their release from custody saying that Israel has made it habitual during Ramadhan, it not only intimidates Palestinian Muslims but also aims to insult and defame both them and all Muslims around the globe.

Muslim leaders have called upon the United Nations, including the Security Council, to assume its legal, moral, and humanitarian responsibilities for halting Israeli aggression and providing international protection for the Palestinian people.

The Al Aqsa mosque is one of the most sacred sites for Muslims around the world. The Muslims have however said that it’s a desecration and a blatant violation of the religious and human rights of the Palestinian people.

The group has urged the Israeli government and it’s armed forces to be held accountable for their actions and to immediately cease all hostilities against innocent civilians and worshipers terming it an act of violation of international law and human rights, calling on the international community to take urgent action to put an end violence.

“We strongly condemn the acts of killing, brutality, and violence at Al Aqsa in Jerusalem, during the
holy month of Ramadan. The desecration of the holy mosque of Al Aqsa, which is one of the most
sacred sites in Islam, is a heinous act that cannot be justified under any circumstances. We also
express our deepest concern and outrage at the disproportionate use of force against peaceful
worshippers, which included women and children.” Muslim leader’s statement read.

During this month of players, the holy month of Ramadhan is a time of peace, reflection, and spiritual growth for Muslims around the world for the Muslim community, It is deeply distressing to see such violence and brutality being perpetrated against worshippers at one of our most sacred sites.

“We call on the Israeli government to respect the rights of all worshippers at Al Aqsa and to take
immediate steps to prevent any further violence and desecration at the holy site. NAMLEF stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and reiterates its commitment to supporting their just cause for freedom, dignity, and self-determination. We call upon all people of conscience to stand with us in denouncing the senseless violence and supporting the rights of the Palestinian people.” NAMLEF says.

Finally, NAMLEF  has sent  condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during these
attacks and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“We believe that peace and justice can only be achieved through a just and lasting solution that
guarantees the full rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to establish their own
independent and sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital,” NAMLEF says.

  • ‘I’m ready to get back’: Afrobeats superstar Davido drops new album ‘Timeless’

‘I’m ready to get back’: Afrobeats superstar Davido drops new album ‘Timeless’

In an interview with CNN’s Larry MadowoAfrobeats musician Davido discusses how losing his son affected his music and his new album ‘Timeless.’

In November 2022, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, took a break from public life to deal with the tragic loss of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi. After almost six months away – except for a performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup closing ceremony – the American-born entertainer has released a new album saying he is healing and “ready to stand up again.”

The 17-track album called “Timeless” is Davido’s fourth studio project since he ventured into music 11 years ago. The title, he says, is a manifestation of his goal for the album to remain a classic for decades. “I know in years to come, if you interview me, we are still going to be talking about this album,” he recently told Madowo in Lagos, Nigeria.

The artist credits his return to the music scene to the overwhelming amount of support he received from family, friends, fans and well-wishers. “At some point I couldn’t open my Instagram for weeks. One day, I just checked it and I saw messages from every kind of person in the world. I was like ‘you’re fine, you see everybody is rooting for you.’ That was one thing that really made me strong enough to stand up again, get back in the studio and do what I love,” Davido told CNN.

He describes the journey the album takes the listener on, “With this record you will definitely hear me talk about a couple things I’ve been through personally, but you are also gonna dance.”

Now that he is back doing what he loves, the goal, he says, is for him and his team to continue to make music that resonates with people. “That’s what we’re here to do, that’s what we were brought to do in this world. I’m just ready to get back, I’m ready to just go back on the road. A lot of things are going to be different.”

Larry Madowo’s full interview with Davido will air in a special African Voices Changemakers episode on April 22nd 2023.

  • Rystad Energy to Participate at Namibia International Energy Conference 2023 as Strategic Knowledge Partner

Rystad Energy to Participate at Namibia International Energy Conference 2023 as Strategic Knowledge Partner

Global research and business intelligence company Rystad Energy has joined the Namibia International Energy Conference (NIEC) 2023 as a strategic knowledge partner, advancing energy-related dialogue and engagement. Now in its 5th edition, the event represents the official energy conference of the country, serving to generate investment and kickstart new developments across the Namibian energy sector – an objective made more tangible with Rystad Energy’s participation.

With recent oil and gas discoveries including TotalEnergies’ Venus 1-X and Shell’s Graff-1 in 2022 and Jonker-1X in 2023 turning Namibia into a global exploration and production hub for international majors and independents, Rystad Energy’s industry know-how will be crucial for driving NIEC 2023 dialogue around the partnership and investment opportunities within Namibia’s upstream industry. Since these discoveries, the market has seen heightened interest by a suite of regional and global players, with NIEC 2023 serving as the ideal forum to expand knowledge and insights regarding the Namibian E&P landscape. With its participation, Rystad Energy will advance knowledge sharing, laying the foundation for new deals to be signed and partnerships formed.

While the Namibian government is seeking to boost energy access, socioeconomic development and economic growth by leveraging local resources, the hydrocarbons industry has a vital role to play in guaranteeing energy security for the southern African country as well as in driving gross domestic product growth through revenue generation for the government. While the availability of adequate investments continues to challenge the global oil and gas industry, platforms such as NIEC and the participation of Rystad Energy will be vital in shaping discussions around best practices for Namibia to adopt in order to attract foreign direct investments. With various factors such as increases in energy demand and geopolitical trends disrupting global energy security, Namibia’s oil and gas industry has a huge role to play in balancing global supply.

On the renewables front, Rystad Energy’s participation at NIEC is instrumental for enhancing the exchanging of ideas around investment and partnership opportunities within the country’s solar, wind and green hydrogen industry. With the Namibian government accelerating diversification, the country’s untapped renewables and green hydrogen potential has turned the market into an investment destination for European and global clean energy investors. Large-scale green hydrogen projects positioning Namibia among Africa’s green energy capitals include Fortescue and Enersense’s Daures Green Hydrogen Village, RWE and HYPHEN Hydrogen Energy’s green ammonia initiative and German-backed Power-to-X green hydrogen pilots across the southern African country.

“The African Energy Chamber (AEC), as the voice of the African energy sector and a strategic partner for NIEC 2023, looks forward to Rystad Energy’s participationg at this year’s NIEC 2023 conference. Rystad’s research and market intelligence has been crucial for maximizing Africa’s stance on the role local energy resources can play in addressing energy access, affordability, poverty and security matters. The presence of Rystad at NIEC will be vital for highlighting exploration trends and opportunities within Namibia’s energy industry for global energy services companies and investors,” states NJ Ayuk, the Executive Chairman of the AEC.

Taking place under the theme ‘Shaping the Future of Energy towards Value Creation’ in Windhoek from 25 – 27 April, NIEC 2023 unites Namibian energy policymakers, companies and stakeholders from across the entire energy value chain with global investors to discuss Namibia’s energy future. As a strategic knowledge partner for NIEC 2023, Rystad Energy will join high-level institutions, global energy firms and financiers in shaping Namibia’s burgeoning energy industry through discussions, exclusive networking sessions and deal signings.

Representing the leading investment platform for the energy sector, Energy Capital & Power (ECP) will also particiapte at this year’s edition of NIEC 2023, promoting its upcoming Namibian-focused market report, Energy Invest Namibia. Produced in partnership with Namibia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy, the publication serves as a framework and guideline on how to invest in the country’s energy sector. Join Rystad Energy, the AEC, ECP and many more high-level organizations at this year’s NIEC conference.

Return of dark days for journalists engulfed with attacks in line of duty

As the Maandamano Monday showdown is on, local and international scribes are getting it hard to cover the events as intimidations and strict directives from the police are employed to demean the journalist’s democracy.

Two journalists from African Uncensored were arrested earlier on Monday morning in Mathare covering the scenes were arrested and later released after being detained for 30 minutes in Mathare.

Social media battalions took it and condemned the act leading to the release. African uncensored CEO John Allan Namu took to Twitter to condemn the arrest of the scribes.

“Our African Uncensored journalists; Calvin Rock and Clint Obere have been arrested by police while covering protests in Mathare. We aren’t sure where they are being taken at the moment. This is uncalled for, an affront to our freedom to do our jobs. They need to be released now,” Alln Namu said.

He later made an update that the journalists were released.

Calvin Rock via Twitter said, “After being held for 30 minutes by the police for doing our job, they’ve finally released us.”

Elsewhere, a Nation reporter covering the protests in Nairobi CBD complained of police harassment. On its live blog, Nation Africa reported that the journalist had been asked by police to delete images captured and destroyed their press cards.

  • Huawei angles for piece of Kenya’s Kshs 17 billion data center industry

Huawei angles for piece of Kenya’s Kshs 17 billion data center industry

Huawei Technologies is angling for a slice of the multi-billion-shilling cloud computing industry in Kenya with a new solution known as the Intelligent Cloud Network that has been designed and built to address key challenges facing organizations that are going through the digitalization journey.

With this solution, Huawei has become the first in the industry to roll out autonomous driving for datacenter networks and slashing operating expenses by up to 30 percent. This solves problems such as multiple data centers that have been built over a period of time, use different architectures, on separate clouds. In such a case, each data center may use distinct standards, leading to siloed management.

Speaking when he announced the introduction of the service, Huawei Chief Technology Officer for Southern Africa Mr. Matamela Mashau noted that by 2025, the firm expects that more than 80 percent of organizations will have migrated their services to the cloud.

“We are in a multi-cloud environment, characterized by the presence of public and private clouds with the former being used by the public sector and the latter, the private sector”, said Mashau.

Kenya, pointed out Mashau, is a primary data center hub and is considered the gateway to the East African region. Nairobi, the capital city, is a favorable location for data center development. In the coming years, the market is expected to witness data center investments in other cities, with Mombasa becoming a popular hub. The country’s data center market is estimated at Kshs 17 billion (USD 170 million) currently and projected to double over the next three years to Kshs 34 billion (USD 342 million) by 2026.

The significance of networks to enterprises, he explained, is similar to that of the blood vessels to humans, with data functioning as the blood that carries oxygen and nutrients. The quality of the network thus determines the efficiency and productivity of the organization.

Huawei’s end to end Intelligent Cloud Network solutions include CloudCampus 3.0, CloudFabric 3.0, CloudWAN 3.0 and HiSec 3.0. These latest generation cloud technologies are all built to deliver an optimal cloudification experience across wide area networks, data center networks, campus networks and network security.

It is digital, intelligent and service oriented. This means that the network status is digitally sensed. This real time status visualization presents the physical networks to the digital world as it is centrally managed. In addition, once the network is digitalized, the organization can then introduce enhancements including Artificial Intelligence components and Big Data to elevate their level of intelligence.

This fixes demand and usage of the network and cloud usage, improving trouble shooting efficiency, security defense and traffic steering. Furthermore, it is available as a one-click subscription service. By being a network as a service option, it offers a more flexible full life cycle future spanning planning, construction, maintenance and optimization.

Mashau observed that data centers are increasingly becoming central to the running of local economies and organizations, pointing out that they play a fundamental role as everything that happens online is housed in a data center.

Challenges faced by legacy networks include long deployment where it takes some times months to install it while the cloud enables it to be done in minutes thus saving time. Huawei built the Intelligent Cloud Network Solution to speed up service cloudification. This solution is a great fit to supply non-stop computing power and intelligence to diverse industries for a leap forward in productivity and a new impetus for the digital economy just as the power grid transmits electricity to numerous households.

The data communications industry is fast evolving as networks are gradually becoming IP based, meaning IP addresses are being assigned to everything that is electronic. The result is IP networks that connect applications on one end and devices on the other end.

Digital transformation now expands to a digital government, digital society, digital economy and digital ecosystem leading to scenarios such as smart cities, smart healthcare and smart manufacturing. Against this backdrop, the focus is on how to coordinate and build cloud computing infrastructure, consolidate data centers and propel enterprises into cloud based and platform centric operations that aggregate data resources and promote big data industry clusters.

The solution will be distributed locally through Huawei’s channel partners.

  • Mandonga “Mtu Kazi” Attracts Massive Crowd at KICC

Mandonga “Mtu Kazi” Attracts Massive Crowd at KICC

Tanzania’s showman Karim “Mtukazi” Mandonga is the magnet that pulled in the massive turnout in Saturday’s 10-bout professional boxing card at the KICC Tsavo Ballroom.

The huge turnout brought back memories of 1987 when a similar crowd watched Kenya’s Hit Squad win eight gold medals in the boxing finals of the African Games and the first post independence professional boxing contest in July 2,1983 when Kenya’s Napunyi Oduori KO’d Tanzania’s Onesmo Ngowi in the third round of the main fight to win the East African featherweight title. Both events took place at the same venue.

Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) President Reuben Ndolo and Secretary-General Franklin Imbenzi were over the moon. Their move to invite Mandonga was a gem. Promoter Mike Odongo of Solid Rock Promotions was equally elated by the huge turnout at KICC.

“I will meet with my team to review the whole show and way forward but Mandonga will definitely be back,” said Odongo.

“We will bring Mandonga to Kenya again, he’s a good marketer,” said Ndolo.

Mandonga defeated Kenya’s Daniel Wanyonyi who refused to answer the bell for the sixth round in this super middleweight bout. Not that Wanyonyi received a thorough beating from the Tanzanian but he looked unfit and ill prepared for the fight which was transmitted live through KPBC’s online Ndondi TV.

“This is our new project we’re proud for the big leap forward we now have our own online TV, we will be showing all our fights through Ndondi TV,” said Imbenzi.

The fight itself lacked the expected fireworks with Wanyonyi holding his own in the opening two rounds but from there it was Mandonga carrying the fight to the Kenyan. His punches were however not strong enough to KO Wanyonyi who was at times forced to burry his face under both gloves for safety as Mtukazi attacked in waves.

Soon after referee Julius Odhiambo signaled the end of the fight, an excited Mandonga punched the air in joy, doing some shuffling and was joined by his manager Juma Ndambire.

“Mandonga is now a brand in Tanzania through his gifted marketing skills,” said Ndambire.

“He has a contract with Wasafi Bet, Robi One and K4 Security to advertise their products. We’re now in talks with a prominent betting company for Mandonga to be their ambassador.”

Big-talking Mandonga, 43, thanked Kenyans for their warm welcome and said he will be back in April.

“Nimesema na kutenda, Mandonga Mtukazi nimempiga Wanyonyi mpaka akaogopa kuja kwa raundi ya sita maanake angeramba sakafu. Naja Kenya tena mwezi wa nne.” Mandonga has improved his record to 4-3-1 (2 KOs).

In the co-main supporting middleweight bout, Kenya’s Rayton Okwiri outpointed Tanzania’s Shabani Ndaro who was warned several times by the referee George Athman for constantly holding his opponent.

“He messed up my plans for the fight, whenever I wanted to set up my attack he was holding me, and the referee was also too lenient,” said Okwiri.

With that victory, Okwiri has improved his record to 9-1-1 (6 KOs) and Ndaro dropped to 5-1-1 (2 KOs). It was Ndaro’s first defeat in his professional boxing career.

  • Rashford makes his Marc in massive Manchester derby

Rashford makes his Marc in massive Manchester derby

Pep Guardiola’s 500th top-flight game as a manager ended in a dramatic Manchester derby defeat as Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford turned the match on its head after Jack Grealish opener’s at Old Trafford, meaning the Red Devils are now only a point behind their bitter rivals, who remain five points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

This was one of Manchester United’s best chances of beating their neighbours when Guardiola has been in charge, with the Catalan keen to see a response from his team after their dismal Carabao Cup loss to Southampton in midweek. The game settled into a decent pace from kick-off. Bernando Silva’s loose pass allowed the hosts to mount an attack, but compatriot Fernandes dragged his effort wide.

Fred was doing a sterling job of sticking to Kevin De Bruyne, and the Belgian, who hadn’t got a PL goal or assist since 29 October before this match, was struggling to influence proceedings early on. Erling Haaland’s first shot in anger from the edge of the area was blocked on 24 minutes, before Ederson had a heart-in-mouth moment as he charged out to meet Rashford and the striker rounded the Brazilian, only for Manuel Akanji to intervene on the line.

Rashford was then put through again, but Ederson smothered effectively as the 25-year-old bore down on goal. However, the England international was soon in pain after appearing to pull up injured, but soldiered on until the break. Rashford was able to continue at the start of the second period, but Anthony Martial was instead taken off, Antony taking the Frenchman’s place.

On 54 minutes, De Bruyne was able to stretch his legs and hang up a cross for Silva, but the Portugal international’s header back across goal was cut out vitally by Raphaël Varane. The creator supreme couldn’t be tied down though, and another hanging ball into the danger area was powered home by Grealish. Erik ten Hag threw on 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho in an attempt to turn the tide, and United equalised 12 minutes from the end of normal time when Casemiro’s inch-perfect through-ball was swept home by Fernandes. The effort was initially ruled out because it was thought that Rashford, in an offside position, had touched the ball. However, after referee Stuart Attwell spoke to assistant Darren Cann, the goal was given.

And United stunningly completed the comeback when Fernandes instigated a breakaway with a superb reverse pass to Garnacho, who scampered forward and had a cross blocked by Akanji, but the 18-year-old regained possession and spun Nathan Aké to produce a fizzing cross that Rashford tucked between Ederson’s legs to send the home fans berserk. That crushing defeat means City must hope that Arsenal fall to defeat in Sunday’s north London derby. A victory for the Gunners however would put Mikel Arteta’s men eight points clear.

After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announce my immediate retirement from club and international football.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have realised my dream of playing the sport I love. It has truly given me some of the best moments of my life. The highest of highs over 17 seasons, that will be impossible to replicate, no matter what the next chapter has in store for me.

From my very first touch at Southampton to my last with LAFC and everything in between, shaped a club career that I have an immense pride and gratitude for. Playing for and captaining my country 111 times has truly been a dream come true.

To show my gratitude to all of those that have played their part along this journey, feels like an impossibility. I feel indebted to many people for helping to change my life and shape my career in a way I couldn’t have ever dreamed of when I first started out at 9 years old.

To my previous clubs, Southampton, Tottenham, Real Madrid and finally LAFC. All of my previous managers and coaches, back room staff, team mates, all the dedicated fans, my agents, my amazing friends and family, the impact you have had is immeasurable.

My parents and my sister, without your dedication in those early days, without such a strong foundation, I wouldn’t be writing this statement right now, so thank you for putting me on this path and for your unwavering support.

My wife and my children, your love and support has carried me through. Right beside me for all the highs and lows, keeping me grounded along the way. You inspire me to be better, and to make you proud.

So, I move on with anticipation to the next stage of my life. A time of change and transition, an opportunity for a new adventure.
