As president Ruto prepares to name his Cabinet and get down to work, a church leader has called for political goodwill if the country’s socio-economic problems have to be solved.

Citing the high cost of living, corruption and adverse effects of climate change concerns among others issues, Bishop Daniel Tonui of Elim Victory Church International exudes confidence that President Ruto will offer much needed wisdom to tackle the issues.

Bishop Tonui, who is also a former Member of Parliament for Kipkelion in Kericho County, lauded the peaceful election process and subsequent political transition, terming the president an inspiration to many.

Addressing the media in Nairobi, Bishop Tonui (pictured, centre) observed that the president’s campaign promises stood to turn around the lives of many Kenyans if well executed.

“Your Excellency, you are a great inspiration to youths and people doing small businesses…we look forward to your empowering SMEs through equipping them with funds to begin and better their businesses so that together we can contribute to towards building our great nation,” he said.

Flanked by other church leaders, Tonui hailed the president’s exemplary appearance and address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York recently where he ably spoke on pertinent issues affecting humanity.

“During the UN Summit in New York, you articulated very well issues about climate change…through this as a nation we can learn that we need a strong political will to support the countries affected,” he said.

The former MP also asked the president to show guidance on the contentious issue of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) illegalizing sitting allowances and other perks for sitting members of the 13th Parliament.

He also implored the President to address the issue of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) which is causing concerns among parents, teachers and other education stakeholders.
