Radio presenter Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has formally left Kiss FM. The media guru made his last appearance on the station’s breakfast show on Wednesday and, alongside his co-host, Kamene Goro, confirmed, as expected, his plan to engage in active politics.
“Let’s not call it a wake-up call, let’s call it a curtain call. So the curtain call today falls on me as I begin a new chapter officially to go and try my hands in politics. This is a calling and a chance to show people that good leaders still exist, by being one,” said an emotional Jalang’o who is eyeing the Lang’ata parliamentary seat. Jalang’o’s exit was received by an emotional Goro.
“This is so hard but we are always going to be together. It’s your dream, I know it’s gonna come true for sure. Lang’ata you have the best in this guy. Don’t play monkey, it is not a gamble. We are letting him go to you so that he can serve you the same way he has served all of us and been our friend. You are my bestie, my sponsor, and my biggest motivation. It breaks my heart to see you go but I’m so happy for what you are going to do,” she said.
The resignation is in line with a directive by the Media Council of Kenya to journalists seeking elective positions to step down at least six months to the polls.
A renowned radio presenter, emcee, and comedian, Jalang’o, who also owns an online TV station, has been at Kiss FM for the past two years, ever since he controversially quit Milele FM in the wake of a pay dispute.
He will likely face Jaoko Oburu, nephew to veteran politician Raila Odinga, incumbent Nick Korir and football administrator Nicholas Musonye.
