The Nairobi Expressway will cease its operations from Saturday as the trial period comes to an end following its opening about three months ago.

According to the Moja Expressway, the company tasked with managing the road, the 27-kilometre highway which stretches from Mlolongo to Westlands will be closed until its official commissioning.

“The trial period for the Nairobi Expressway, which commenced on 14th May 2022 has come to an end. The road will be closed from 9 pm this Saturday, July 30th, 2022 until it’s officially commissioned,” read a statement from Moja.

While expressing regret to motorists for the inconvenience the closure will cause, the China-based company said road users will be informed about its reopening.

“Moja Expressway Company Ltd regrets any inconvenience caused and motorists will be advised upon resumption of service on the Expressway,” stated the notice.

During the opening of the road in May, President Uhuru Kenyatta said a trial basis would allow the government to identify sections that need to be polished up.
